What is Solution-Focused Brief Therapy?

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a modern, practical approach to therapy that helps you move forward — not just look back. Instead of spending months analyzing problems, we focus on your strengths, your goals, and what’s already working (even if just a little). Together, we’ll identify small, meaningful steps that create real momentum and lasting change.

 

SFBT is ideal for people who want therapy to feel purposeful, collaborative, and efficient. It’s especially helpful if you’ve tried therapy before and felt stuck, or if you’re looking for a fresh, empowering way to create change.

Most Problems Have Nothing to Do with the “Problem”
 

It’s a surprising idea — but one that can change everything.

 

In traditional therapy, we often start by dissecting the problem: Where did it come from? Why does it keep happening? What does it say about you? While that can be useful, it can also keep us stuck in the past, circling the same pain points without much movement.

 

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy flips that script. Instead of asking “Why is this happening?” we ask, “What would life look like without this problem?” And then — “What’s already working, even a little bit?” That shift opens up space for change.

 

Because here’s the truth:
Most problems aren’t solved by understanding them better. They’re solved by doing something different.

 

And often, the path forward has very little to do with the problem itself.

For example, someone might come in feeling overwhelmed by anxiety. But instead of analyzing every anxious thought, we might explore the one hour last week when they felt calm. What was different? What helped? How can we build more of that?

I accept insurance to make therapy more affordable and within reach.
